In Olle Bærtling’s graphic works, the triangle takes center stage. With sharp, dynamic forms he created a pictorial universe where color and shape extend beyond the picture plane – a concept he called “open form.” The triangles do not end within the frame but continue outward, generating a sense of motion and infinity.
Bærtling worked with strict geometric elements: vivid color fields separated by black lines that are never completely straight, but slightly curved to balance the optical tension of the colors. The result is graphic compositions of remarkable intensity, where every line and tone is meticulously calibrated.
For Bærtling, the triangles are not decorative. They are vectors of force, charged with energy – a visual language where expression emerges solely from the interplay of form and color, entirely detached from depiction or symbolism.
