Textile historians have their work cut out for them. Similar approaches seem to have emerged independently in several high cultures around the world. In Sweden, terms like "tuskaft," pattern-forming weft threads, "rölakan," seams, and weaving techniques are discussed, not to mention textiles as art and crafts. Stockholms Auktionsverk Göteborg knows their textiles well and now presents the theme "Modern Textiles." Three of the lots come from Märta Måås-Fjetterström's studio before the company became a joint-stock corporation after her passing. These include two copies of the classic "Blå Heden" and the somewhat rarer "Ljusa" carpet. Judith Johansson's "Enebacken" is a lovely addition, and from Hannah Ryggen's studio, there's a colorful tapestry with floral motifs.
