Crafoord Auctions Lund presents a concentrated offering of Japanese artistry with 11 lots in the peculiar art forms of Tsuba and Inro. In simplified terms, the former can be described as the handguard plate for Japanese swords, carrying a thousand-year tradition and a decidedly elevated position within Japanese craftsmanship. Inro refers to small cases primarily intended for medicine or seal stamps. Initially a utilitarian item, it evolved through changing fashions, the needs of the wearer, and, most importantly, status, becoming an accessory tailored for artistically gifted craftsmen unafraid of time-consuming precision work.
Today, these types of items have long been of great interest to knowledgeable collectors. At Crafoord Auctions, we have the pleasure of presenting nine Inro, two Tsuba of excellent quality, and of various types.
Welcome!
