It has been exactly 100 years since John Kandell was born, and Växjö Auktionskammare celebrates the centenary with an impressive selection of his iconic Victory and Räv models – all with provenance from Saxnäsgården in Marsfjäll.
Kandell hardly needs an introduction. He was a Swedish architect, painter, and designer who began his career at Carl-Axel Acking’s office but soon made a name for himself. Renowned as a furniture designer – with uncompromising creations in wood that radiate master craftsmanship – he was also an accomplished interior architect and a long-time lecturer at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design.
In the 1960s, Kandell was active in the Hi Group, and in the 1980s he began a highly successful collaboration with Sven Lundh at Källemo. By then, he was an established figure, yet once again he managed to renew himself, presenting designs that attracted wide attention in the Swedish design press.
The furniture featured in this theme was crafted by Källemo and dates from around 1990, a period when Kandell boldly presented his creations in vivid shades of green and red.
John Kandell remains a cornerstone of 20th-century Swedish design history, and this auction offers a rare opportunity to acquire one or several examples of truly exceptional Scandinavian craftsmanship.
Welcome!
