For ten years, photographer Göran Broberg traveled with The Hives on their world tours – three laps around the globe through airports, hotel corridors, and sold-out arenas. Between 2013 and 2023, he documented the band’s life – on stage, behind the scenes, and in all the moments that are never seen. The result became the long-term photo project The Monochrome Chronicle, a visual archive of a band that rarely stands still.
Broberg’s images are more than concert photography. They offer a unique insight that captures movement, rhythm, and presence – sometimes loud, sometimes unexpectedly still. Some photographs include stories told by the band members themselves, while others are explained by the photographer. Together, they form a fragmented, humorous, and unfiltered portrait of one of Sweden’s most internationally recognized rock bands.
Stockholms Auktionsverk now has the honor of presenting the themed auction The Hives – The Monochrome Chronicle, showcasing a selection of Göran Broberg’s photographs taken throughout the band’s life.
Additionally, eight further works by tour photographer Micke Sandström are included in the theme, featuring legendary venues and concert moments.
On December 6th, The Hives will perform their largest headline show in Europe to date, at the Avicii Arena. In conjunction with the event, works from the project will be auctioned – offering a rare opportunity to own a piece of contemporary music history.
The world’s oldest auction house now has the privilege of auctioning photographs of what has come to be known as “the world’s greatest live band.”
Welcome to step into The Hives’ touring life and explore images and stories – from festivals in Berlin, backstage at the AC/DC tour, swimming in the Volga River, to The Last Supper in São Paulo.
