For Rörstrand, the 1980s marked a period of creative renewal and transformation. New designers joined the factory, and new expressions emerged in the items that came out of the ovens in Lidköping. This was symbolically manifested in a collection of teapots presented in 1986. Four designers were tasked with interpreting a ceramic utility item with a thousand-year history. Rolf Sinnemark, perhaps the most postmodern in his approach, responded with the models Cube and Cone. The former was adorned with a kind of white-on-black gift wrapping paper with an accentuated red lid. Inger Persson offered delicate forms in Via and Stream. Signe Persson-Melin was responsible for the Asia-inspired Six-sided. And the independent-minded Gösta Grähs had developed three delightfully chubby models: Classic, Globe, and Stone, with brass handles.
Now, you have the opportunity to enjoy them all at Stockholms Auktionsverk Magasin 5, which presents the so-called "Teapot Project" in a single theme. This is a golden opportunity to delve into Rörstrand's eventful 1980s. If you weren't already a five o'clock tea enthusiast, there are no more excuses after this.
