STOCKHOLMS AUKTIONSVERK PRESENTS
The Contemporary Art Sale
The Contemporary Art Sale highlights contemporary art by Swedish and international artists. Among the most prominent works in the auction are two pieces by Lena Cronqvist in which the girl takes centre stage. “Flicka med fläta och parasoll” is a striking example of Cronqvist’s skill as a sculptor, where the work of the hand is evident in every detail. The piece conveys an unusual sense of calm and presence that lingers. In “Två flickor”, childhood play and the encounter between innocence and unease are brought into focus.
International significance is added through “Spine (Black B)” by Tony Cragg, whose organic visual language and sensitivity to materials place him at the very forefront of contemporary sculpture. Another fine example is “Kvinna i röd klänning” by Stephen Balkenhol, carved from a single block of wood. The sale also features international photographers such as David LaChapelle and Cindy Sherman.
The auction also draws attention to Ola Billgren, one of Sweden’s most influential artists of the late 20th century. This year marks 25 years since his untimely passing, and we present a selection from his career—from works of the 1970s through to the distinctive red paintings of the 1990s.
“Här slutar allmän väg” by Dan Wolgers captures, with conceptual precision and subtle humour, the essence of his artistic practice. Here, the everyday and the philosophical meet in a form that is both playful and thought-provoking. The auction also includes works by Britta Marakatt-Labba, whose poetic and narrative imagery conveys Sámi history with quiet intensity, as well as Jockum Nordström, known for his dreamlike collages in which the naïve meets the sophisticated in a finely balanced harmony.
The Contemporary Art Sale offers an engaging opportunity to acquire works by artists who have defined and continue to shape our present—an auction for both the seasoned collector and the curious newcomer, where each work carries a story worth passing on.
