The City of Stockholm – a beloved subject for artists and viewers alike. Once, the city’s silhouette was a symbol of power, regarded through a romantic lens during the 19th century. Then came the era of Blåmåleriet (the “blue painters”), and with the rise of modernism, everyday life, bridges and an evolving urban landscape offered new ways to interpret and understand the city.
Crafoord Auktioner Stockholm now presents more than 120 views of Stockholm.
Many celebrated painters of the city are represented. In this brief introduction, we pause at just three works from the theme. In a painting by Richard Bergman, we encounter that unmistakable blue resting softly over a row of buildings by Vasaparken. Through Mona Huss Wallin, we gain a bird’s-eye view of bustling street life, rich with movement and energy. And thanks to Einar Forseth, we are invited to enjoy a patch of shade on a warm summer day in Svindersvik.
