When the history of our modern art and design is written, one cannot overlook those eventful years of the 1920s and ’30s. The Paris Exhibition, the Stockholm Exhibition, and then New York. And it is from that period that Auktionshuset Kolonn has gathered the highlights for its themed sale From Elegance to Function.
Here you’ll find the salon tables with their sturdy baluster legs, the functionalist chests of drawers, the delicate pewter mirrors and the reading chairs.
Then there’s the lighting – which in recent years has made something of a sensational comeback. Creations in glass and brass, some classically inspired, others organically graceful. All of them beautifully purposeful.
And finally, the small-scale beauties: the cigarette dispenser – a marvel of elegance, a mechanical jewel for those with that particular habit – Folke Ahström’s cocktail shaker, and a pair of carafes by Simon Gate, their glass tinted like late-summer light behind a linen curtain.
Welcome to turn back the clock a good hundred years with Auktionshuset Kolonn!
