In Helmtrud Nyström's life and career, a botanical garden played a pivotal role. But let’s start from the beginning. Born in Hannover, Germany, in 1939 to a road director and a physiotherapist, Helmtrud Meyer initially pursued a path in landscape architecture. She trained as a garden architect and completed her internship at the Bergian Garden in Stockholm, where she met her future husband and took his surname after their marriage.
During her studies at Östra Grevie Folk High School, she developed an interest in life drawing, which led her to transition from her botanical aspirations to fine arts, a passion she had nurtured since childhood. Helmtrud Nyström made her artistic debut at the Lilla Konstsalongen in Malmö in the late 1960s and went on to have a long career as a painter and graphic artist.
Garpenhus Auktioner now proudly presents 21 of Helmtrud Nyström's works. This collection offers a cross-section of her artistry, featuring both natural landscapes and more evocative compositions.
