It is situated like a soft summer dream by the sea outside Båstad, Ingrid Herrlin's Atelier Villa Hasselbacken. And now, as Ingrid Herrlin herself is leaving her home after a lifetime there, the opportunity arises through Skånes Auktionsverk to acquire a handful of ceramic apples or perhaps something significantly older, such as a mahogany armchair from the previous turn of the century. The showpiece is a monumental sculpture by Sven Bertil Herlow Svensson, but let's return to that in a moment.
Ingrid Herrlin is among the few ceramists in Sweden who can almost be described as beloved by the public. When she was awarded the cultural prize of the year in Båstad municipality in 2005, the press referred to her as the "Apple Lady." It is mainly her fruits (and indeed also potatoes) that have earned her a place in the history of Swedish design. A success that was probably hard to foresee when she graduated from the School of Industrial Arts in Gothenburg in 1957. But her repertoire is broader than that. Just look at the bag, suitcase, and aviator cap she conjured up in her studio from nothing but her own imagination and creative joy.
Alongside these ceramic masterpieces, paintings, furniture, lamps, and more from mainly older epochs are offered, as well as Sven Bertil Herlow Svensson's incredible creation titled "The Mechanics of the Sector." For the true collectors and enthusiasts, Ingrid Herrlin's workbench with associated tools is also available. It is something truly special, and one might wish that a museum would bid on these cultural treasures.
