Finally, it's here! The Spring Auction at Stockholm Auction House Helsinki. The 2023 edition features approximately 200 lots of classical antiques, high-quality paintings, jewelry, watches, and amidst it all, a superb piece of Swedish silverwork from 1873.
The highlight of the auction is a piece of Finnish art history - Ellen Thesleff's portrait of her sister from the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris. It is intimate and delicate, yet at the same time intense and almost hypnotizing. In short, a masterpiece. Among the most significant items in the auction are also Akseli Gallen-Kallela's interpretation of the Legend of Prometheus, Magnus Enckell's pleasantly summery painting Idyll, and a truly spectacular Russian samovar in silver. In addition to these lots, the auction also includes works by Ilya Efimovich Repin, a moonlit landscape by Klever Yuli Yulevich, prints by Marc Chagall and Helene Schjerfbeck, a stately slant-front secretary in Russian Directoire style, and much, much more.
