Anyone who sat in a classroom during the Swedish welfare-state era has probably seen his images. Göte Göransson, a self-taught illustrator from Bergslagen in Västmanland, painted Swedish history in pictures. He began his career as a cartoonist and advertising illustrator in Stockholm, with extended stays in, among other places, the US and Spain, before increasingly turning to illustrating educational textbooks - primarily in history. His book "Karoliner," published in 1976, is perhaps his best-known work. In 1984, he was awarded the Sven Lidman Prize, and 18 years later he received the Alf Henrikson Prize.
At Auktionshuset Kolonn, we step straight into historical scenes. Some dramatic. Others more modest. Here, Mynttorget and Helgeandsholmen are depicted; here, a stagecoach is under attack; and here, the Life Guards charge into battle on horseback.
