Over more than three decades, this extensive collection has grown around ship models as its central theme. The result is a selection of just over 150 items – from magnificent shipowner’s models to English pond yachts and other nautical objects – reflecting several centuries of maritime cultural history.
Among the highlights of the auction are nine impressive shipowner’s models, most of them crafted around the turn of the 20th century. The models depict cargo ships, pilot boats, steamships, motor yachts and sailing vessels, and several are preserved in their original display cases.
The collection also includes 18 English pond yachts dating from the late 19th century through to the 1960s, with the majority originating prior to 1930. These sailing models, built for racing on ponds and lakes, represent a long-standing British tradition. Many bear a beautiful patina from active use, most notably in the form of aged sails that bear witness to a life on the water.
On display at Nybrogatan 32 in Stockholm, 19–23 August.
