Next station Göppingen, Märklin special

There are collectors who are happy to buy whatever happens to come their way. And then there are those who have a plan. Year after year, they return to the same place, looking for the next carriage, the next locomotive and the next little detail missing from the collection.

We now have the pleasure of presenting the Märklin world of such a collector at auction. The majority of the nearly 100 lots come from a single collection, built up over many years and with regular trips to Göppingen in Germany – Märklin’s home town and the location of the company’s own museum.

Among the highlights is an almost complete run of the sought-after Museumswagen from 1986 to 2016. These carriages were sold exclusively at the Märklin Museum and have over the years become a collecting area in their own right. The auction also includes more than 60 locomotives, primarily based on European and Swedish prototypes, as well as a large selection of freight cars, model kits, buildings and accessories for those looking to create an entire miniature world.

And then, of course, there are the NOHAB locomotives. Among the collection is a whole group of the distinctive “round nose” locomotives built by NOHAB in Trollhättan – a Swedish classic that has also found its way into the world of model railways.

A large part of the collection has also been preserved in its original boxes, from older Märklin models to more recent releases. This has helped keep many of the items in excellent condition, while the older boxes add another collectible dimension to the collection.
