Women have left their mark on art, design, and craftsmanship throughout history. They have developed new forms of expression, explored materials, and created works that continue to inspire long after their own time. In the themed auction Women Artists & Designers, Auktionshuset Kolonn highlights artistic careers from different generations, where historical forerunners meet contemporary voices.
In this autumn's edition, the auction takes on a special dimension through a collaboration with the artist and ceramicist Kakan Hermansson. After our previous auction, she got in touch with an idea of bringing together older and contemporary women artists and designers. Now that idea has become reality.
As guest curator for part of the auction, Kakan has handpicked and invited contemporary artists and designers to take part with their work. Here you'll find works by, among others, Siri Carlén, Parasto Backman, Hanna Hansdotter, Mia Larsson, Evelina Kroon, Susanne Pontus Persson, Ester Eriksson, Malin Pierre, Zandra Ahl, Stefanie Gripenberg, Helen Carlson, and Erika Kristoffersson, as well as works by Kakan Hermansson herself. It is a selection that moves between art, design, and craftsmanship, with personal expressions and varied approaches to form and material.
Among the auction's older and modern works, we encounter Märta Måås-Fjetterström's textile design, Karin Székessy's photography, and Thea Ekström's distinctive visual world. There are also works by Ellen Jolin, Tyra Lundgren, Lisa Larson, Greta Gerell, Inger Ekdahl, Hertha Hillfon, and Madeleine Pyk. They are artists and designers who have, in different ways, contributed to the history of art and design.
By letting these artistic careers meet, we want to create new contexts and perspectives. Objects and works from different eras are allowed to speak to one another and remind us that art history is not only something we look back on, but also something being created here and now.
