There is a photograph of Erik Friis standing beside the garland-draped winning horse Madison Avenue shortly after the Axel Jensen Memorial Race at Bjerkebanen in Oslo. To the right of the picture stands the driver Uno Swed. The photograph was taken in 1978 and immortalises a significant moment in Erik Friis's life. In his hand he holds a large silver tureen, weighing almost two kilograms, bearing the inscription "Axel Jensens Ærespremie".
And it is precisely that tureen that takes centre stage in the theme now presented by Helsingborgs Auktionskammare. Here you will find 14 of all the prizes Erik Friis collected in the world of harness racing. He purchased the horse Madison Avenue in the United States in 1977 and the deal would prove to be a stroke of genuine luck. But among the trophies and prize dishes now on offer, inscriptions can also be found that tell of successes with other horses.
The well-composed auction is a small but significant piece of Swedish harness racing history.
