Clear colours, strong logos and durable materials – the themed auction Advertising celebrates design that stands the test of time. Here are collected classic enamel signs, clocks and pump domes from a time when the roads were new, the cars shone and brands such as Gulf, BP, Caltex and Shell competed for attention at the roadside.
Among the auction's highlights is a round double-sided Gulf sign in orange with blue and white text, a real eye-catcher with its impressive 183 centimeters in diameter. Also included are BP's green-yellow enamel sign, Caltex in black and red, and the durable charm of the large Marfak Caltex sign.
In addition to the signs, we also find details that testify to the design language of the time, such as a glass globe for a Shell pump, a Reglolux Marchal advertising clock from the 1980s and a blue Michelin sign with yellow text, made in France.
