"With the rescue to Sweden, my life was broken apart," Lotte Laserstein is said to have said, referring to her forced emigration from Germany to Sweden in 1937. This rupture was highlighted in the recently concluded exhibition at the Moderna Museet, which showcased works by Lotte Laserstein under the title "A Divided Life."
And now, as Garpenhus Auctions presents twelve works by Laserstein, they originate from her time in Sweden. The selection showcases the artist's breadth, featuring landscape paintings alongside a self-portrait, a pastel study, and a depiction of a bustling day at the Vaxholm ferry.
