Our fascination with Asian craftsmanship extends centuries back in time. In the first half of the 18th century, it gained momentum, and when our first East India ship set sail in the early 1730s, braving icy winds as it left the port of Gothenburg, it marked the beginning of a trade with mighty China. This trade would entail colossal quantities of what the vast continent in the East had to offer.
At Höörs Auktionshall, we get to explore a collection manifested in over 160 lots. Here, you will find the well-known blue and white porcelain from the East India Company but it only constitutes a part of the rich selection. The offerings range from a Cambodian urn with around 500 years of history to a pair of considerably younger Chinese boots and a Nepalese necklace. Among the anticipated highlights are a couple of older bronzes and works from the Song/Yuan dynasties. A sewing box from the 1800s stands out with its intricate craftsmanship. Similarly, an incense burner in celadon colors is well worth an extra look. However, these items are just a selection in a theme that encompasses a variety of treasures.
