The late 1920s Berlin. Bustling cultural life. An art scene that sparkles and boils. In the midst of it all, Lotte Laserstein graduates from the city's art academy and steps into what has been called The New Objectivity. With her portrayals from the studio, she positioned herself as one of the most interesting young artists. A long and successful path seemed to be set. But reality turned out differently. The Nazis came to power, and Laserstein, with her Jewish background, fled the country and arrived in Sweden.
At Garpenhus Auctions, we are presented with six works. The earliest is a portrait from 1936 titled "Frauenkopf mit dunkeln Haaren" (Woman's Head with Dark Hair). Alongside it, there are also a still life, a couple of landscape depictions, and a resting dog in a basket.
