As the art world's interest in popular culture exploded, comic books went from merely being found on boys' and girls' nightstands to attracting collectors who were willing to pay record-breaking sums for sought-after drawings, drafts, sketches, illustrations, and associated memorabilia. Mickey Mouse, Tintin, and The Phantom burst onto the auction and gallery scene. And now, Stockholms Auktionsverk allows us to indulge in panels, speech bubbles, and original cover art. It's all about the art of comics, with a high level of recognition and creators who are no ordinary individuals. From Jim Davis Studios, a series of airbrush originals featuring the most self-assured pet of the 1980s, Garfield the cat, is presented. From perhaps the most famous cartoon studio of them all, Walt Disney Studios, there are a multitude of illustrations featuring Winnie the Pooh, Goofy, and Donald Duck. From the Swedish comic world, we find a rich collection of originals by Rune Andréasson, as well as a couple of highly noteworthy covers for the comic magazine Goliath by Kenneth Hamberg.
Welcome to Stockholms Auktionsverk, and to over 150 lots in the theme "In the World of Comics"!
