There are frescoes from the 12th century depicting greyhounds hunting wild boar and deer. But there are even older testimonies than these that tell of these very special hounds.
They were used for hunting. In the world of the aristocracy, the dogs were released to track down hares, foxes, deer and even wolves. Hunting became a pastime for a small elite and over the years the dogs became closely associated with the aristocracy. So closely, in fact, that following the Russian Revolution they were nearly wiped out entirely.
At Auktionshuset Thörner & Ek they now take centre stage. A collection of no fewer than 120 lots of figurines depicting Borzoi dogs is presented – a collection that bears witness to a passionate act of collecting. Time to get a dog?
