Stockholms Auktionsverk gathers hundreds of years of excellence in a single catalogue as they once again present Eclectic & Decorative. From the very first lot to the last, the catalogue is imbued with what is often referred to as that little something extra. Tyra Lundgren’s plump earthenware fish from the 1930s makes an excellent opening, followed by Helmer Osslund’s June Clouds, where—true to the turn-of-the-century spirit—locomotive-like plumes billow up in the whitest of whites behind the landscape, enveloping it in a soft, benevolent layer. The third lot is a distinctive English armchair—a so-called “plugghäst”—from the 18th century, which can truly be described as a genuine antique.
Such highlights may be drawn from the catalogue wherever one chooses. The offering is rich and varied. Gösta Adrian-Nilsson wishes us “Merry Christmas”, Lisa Larson contributes one of her much-loved elephants, and beneath the marble top of an Empire-style console table, a gilded griffin stretches its wings.
A warm welcome to explore art, decorative arts, and design, carefully selected by the specialists working at the world’s oldest auction house.
