Summer has arrived in Moominvalley. The warmth has come. And the greenery. Perhaps, as Tove Jansson herself puts it, the colours have deepened too.
Norrlands Auktionsverk presents Moomin — A Significant Collection. Here we are offered just over 120 lots brimming with Moomintrolls and all the other familiar characters from Tove Jansson's world.
There will of course be a wonderful abundance of mugs. The centrepiece of the sale is a saffron-yellow rarity sought today by collectors from all over the world. The mug, with its Christmas motif, was produced as a commissioned piece in an unusually small run of only 400 examples. Karl Fazer's Café in Helsinki ordered a numbered series for sale ahead of the Christmas season in 2004, after Fazer had discovered a Christmas advertisement drawn by Tove Jansson in their archive.
In addition to mugs, there will be plates and bowls, a number of figurines and even a couple of blankets.
