
Lawrences Auctioneers present their September Book Sale.
Highlights include Albrecht Dürer’s engraving The Resurrection, an illuminated liturgical manuscript on vellum, and two manuscript diaries relating to service at Rorke’s Drift, Cape Town and India.
Besides books, the sale offers a selection of Old Master prints and engravings, and 17th century county maps by John Speed, John Ogilby and Herman Moll, alongside a 1595 world map by Rumold Mercator and atlas plates by Johannes Blaeu. Also included are documents like manuscript indentures from the 16th to 19th centuries and a rare 1479 incunable leaf from Nicolaus de Udeschis’s Commentaria.
As well as antique books on exploration and natural history, collectors will find signed and first editions. Highlights include Rudolph Ackermann’s The History of Winchester College (1816), a first edition of Roald Dahl’s Matilda illustrated by Quentin Blake, and Rudyard Kipling’s Departmental Ditties, and Other Verses.
