With the 2025 edition of the Spring Fine Art & Antiques Sale, Karlstad Hammarö Auktionsverk firmly cements its position as one of Sweden’s leading auction houses.
In a catalogue spanning over 760 lots, the auction presents a rich array of art, design, and antiques – all carefully selected by the house’s team of experts.
At the very top (yes, quite literally!) stands a truly magical armchair in Värmland’s own forest-inspired Jugend style, designed by Maja Fjaestad and exhibited at the Baltic Exhibition of 1914. Could it be this year’s most exciting design discovery in Sweden?
The armchair is one of several locally crafted highlights in the sale. Another is Johan Friedrich Straub’s exquisite drinking jug – a baroque masterpiece both bold and delicately executed, with a history stretching back 300 years. A third is Gunhild Fryklund’s gently hypnotic painting Part of a Poplar Avenue.
Among the paintings you’ll find works by Lars Lerin, Inge Schiöler, John Christoforou, Bror Lindh, and Erling Ärlingsson. A fresh acquaintance for many may be Albin Ferneman, represented here by seven paintings.
On the design front, a powerful set of six ceiling lamps by Hans-Agne Jakobsson makes an impression. Danish furniture highlights include a rare early armchair by Carl Malmsten, a brilliantly white Åskboll, and a strikingly yellow Impala chair from IKEA. A particular gem in the textile section is Ethel Halvar Andersson’s beautifully balanced rölakan rugs.
Among the smaller treasures are a pewter lidded jar by Nils Fougstedt, a Ferrari Movosprint 52 bicycle, a Bild Lilli doll, and Lisa Larson’s bronze figure Myran.
In the realm of curiosities, you’ll find a tomato-red 1980 Zündapp, a Steinway piano, and a butter churn by Otto Hesselbom.
All in all, it's a vibrant spring flood of colour and form now sweeping through the halls of Karlstad Hammarö Auktionsverk.
Welcome!
