STOCKHOLMS AUKTIONSVERK PRESENTS
The Modern Art Sale
The Modern Art Sale brings together a carefully curated selection of modern art by Swedish and international artists. The auction is characterised by quality, variety, and art-historical significance, featuring works that reflect the artistic developments of the 20th century.
The sale includes a particularly strong selection of Swedish modernists. Notable among these is Otte Sköld’s “Jardin des plantes, Paris”, which attests to his international outlook and assured sense of composition and colour. Sigrid Hjertén is represented by “Balillaparaden”, where her intense use of colour and expressive formal language are fully realised. One of the most noteworthy highlights of the auction is Gösta Adrian-Nilsson’s “Solträdet”—a newly rediscovered painting shown at the artist’s exhibition at Liljevalchs in 1919, where all works remained unsold, and which has not been publicly exhibited for over 100 years.
Also included is Ragnar Sandberg’s “Bad på bryggan”, an atmospheric and colouristically compelling example of his work, along with several significant pieces from the Halmstad Group. Among the sculptures are Christian Berg’s “Torpedfigur I”, Eric Grate’s “Entomologiskt kvinnorov”, and Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd’s iconic “Non–Violence”, which together offer insight into the development of Swedish sculpture during the 20th century.
The international section features several leading names and provides further perspectives on the art of the century. Andy Warhol’s “Queen Elizabeth II” from the series “Reigning Queens” brings together two of the most iconic figures of the 20th century. Jean-Paul Riopelle is represented by “Arthur”, a powerful and materially rich painting with strong presence, while Jasper Johns is represented by a key work from the series “The Seasons”. In addition, a larger collection of oil paintings by Erik Haamer is presented, offering deeper insight into his subject matter and artistic expression.
