Garpenhus Auctions presents a concentrated glimpse of Scanian folk culture! Under the heading Folk Art Objects from the Innkeeper’s Family in Everlöv, we are offered some 60 lots that, for over 200 years, have been used and preserved within the same family. Such a cohesive provenance is quite out of the ordinary, and the auction truly offers collectors a rare chance to acquire utilitarian objects of cultural and historical significance of the highest order.
Particularly noteworthy is a magnificent stone table from 1837. The slab of Komstad stone is inscribed with the initials HAS and MHD, belonging to Hans Andersson and Mätta Häljasdotter. The couple married in 1822, and from their time on the farm comes a range of additional items. Among these, two distinguished bed cushions stand out. One is recorded in Gertrud Ingers’ book Gästgivardöttrarna i Everlöv and may possibly have been woven by “Old Faxe’s wife.” The other bears the initials of Mätta Häljasdotter and features a pattern of opposed birds framed within a laurel wreath.
Alongside the aforementioned pieces are chairs, chests, a cradle, two shifts (both marked with Hans Andersson’s initials), wall hangings, and a long list of other folk art objects.
A warm welcome to Garpenhus Auctions and the theme Folk Art Objects from the Innkeeper’s Family in Everlöv!
