Early on he was interested in metalwork and to be able to learn more about it he moved to Copenhagen. There he became an apprentice to a goldsmith before he started to study at The Royal Danish Art Academy between the years 1895-1901.

After he finished his studies he started working at world famous Danish porcelain factory Bing & Gröndahl. But in 1904 he returned to the metal and started his own workshop for silver in Copenhagen.

His workshop grew and his beautiful pieces in typical art nouveau design became very popular. His workshop soon became the company Georg Jensen Sølvsmedie. He reached so much success that already in 1924 he could open a showroom at Fifth Avenue in New York.

Georg Jensen passed away in 1935 but the company lived on through his son Jørgen Adolf Harding Jensen. The focus remained on high quality silver. Except the items designed by Georg Jensen himself other designers made items under the company brand including names such as Sigvard Bernadotte, Johan Rohde, Nina Koppel and Verner Panton.

During the 1960/70s jewellery was added to the assortment and were designed by designers such as Torun Bülow-Hübe and Nanna Ditzel.

Today Georg Jensen remains as one of the truly iconic arts and crafts brands in the world and collectors all of the world collect their items. The company is today part of the Royal Scandinavian group Group which also includes brands such as Royal Copenhagen, Orrefors Kosta Boda, Boda Nova and Höganäs ceramics.
