Norrlands Auktionsverk proudly presents a themed auction dedicated to the powerful Sámi handicraft tradition.
The greatness of this art form is multi-layered, but above all distinguished by its demand for unmatched technical precision and design. These collectible objects also carry significant cultural and historical value—especially important in a time when parts of Indigenous traditions and languages are at risk of being lost.
Many minority cultures deserve collective protection, but few have refined their utilitarian objects with the same finesse as the Sámi people. This is beautifully illustrated in the auction's 46 lots, ranging from masters of duodji (hard materials), such as Olav Svonni and Esse Poggats, to the phenomenal soft craft of Margit Kitok-Åström—and much in between.
A highlight of the catalogue is undoubtedly Margit’s unforgettable kisa—a root craft piece that took her nearly a year to complete.
Welcome!
