It was at Valand's art school in the early 1910s that they met, John Jon-And and Agnes Cleve. He was then an illustrator with a nimble pen and a variety of studies behind him, and she was a burgeoning artist with a stormy divorce behind her. Together, they debuted in 1917 at Gummesson's art gallery, and the rest is as they say, history. But not really a history, but rather a multitude of stories told through two closely intertwined life experiences. At Stockholms Auktionsverk Göteborg, we meet two Swedish modernists and no less than 26 samples of their artistic accomplishments. The curated selection includes, among other things, a stained glass painting signed by Agnes Cleve and dated 1928. Here we also see several examples of Jon-And's sketchy drawing style.
