Description

The canvas is signed E.I.Ö. IN 1938, C.W. T:torp Sweden, 202 x 129 cm. The canvas's pattern is called the Horn of Plenty and was the most popular of Widlund's designs.

The damask weaver Carl Gustaf Widlund (1887-1968) is considered one of Sweden's most skilled damask weavers of all time. His perfection and great technical know-how, together with the perfect mechanism of the jacquard machine, enabled his canvas fabric to be virtually flawless. He made use of the fine Irish linen yarn which was evenly machine-spun.

PROVENANCE
Elsa and Ida Ödquist, received this canvas as a 60th birthday present in 1938 by teacher colleagues in Karlstad,
passed on to the current owner.

LITERATURE
Berit Eldvik, The dancing damask weaver, Nordiska Museets förlag, 1999, compares patterns on page 40 and page 209.
