Bertil Werkström was born in 1928 in Lund and died in 2010 in Stockholm. Werkström was ordained to the priesthood in 1954 and during his time within the Church of Sweden he was highly esteemed, where he was prominent in the work around the church's hospital activities and pastoral care. In 1975 he became bishop of the diocese of Härnösand and between the years 1983-1993 he was archbishop of Sweden.
