"Stanley Bate (1903-1972) was an American artist born in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. He is most known and appreciated for his modern and abstract works.
During the 1950s and 1960s Bate exhibited a lot. He became a well known profile in the New York art world and he and his wife lived there from the 1940s until Stanley Bates death in 1972.

Auktionshuset Kolonn in Sundbyberg is proud to present this collection of 15 works by Stanley Bate. The collection contains works in various techniques and styles showing different periods in his career.

How did the collection end up in Sweden?

The provenance is a lady named Karin Andersen (born Rosvall). She was born in Väte parish at the Swedish island of Gotland. She emigrated to USA as a 14 year old. There she studied graphical design and moved between various states. In Alaska she worked for The department of transportation drawing roads and landing places. For a short period of time she also worked for NASA.

Karin Andersen inherited this collection from her aunt Vally Hammer that lived in Manhattan. Vally Hammer was married to Peter Hammer and they did not have any children, thus leaving the collection to Karin Andersen.

At the age of 68 Karin moved back to Gotland in Sweden and settled in Ganthem where she lived until her death in 2017. The collection was then inherited by the present owner, a close friend of Karin."
