At Palsgaard Kunstauktioner we step straight into a rich and prolific artistic practice spanning seven decades of painting! And alongside the paintings we find prints — and on top of that, a number of ceramic works.
Niels Mandrup Bruun was born in Ribe and went on to become a painter, draughtsman and printmaker. But the road there was far from straightforward. Having completed his studies at Ribe Katedralskole in 1938, he became involved in the Danish resistance movement during the Second World War — a choice that had consequences. In 1944 he was forced to leave Denmark and made his way to Sweden, where he found temporary refuge in Uppsala with the artist Bror Hjorth.
After the end of the Second World War, Bruun returned to Denmark and began his studies at the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen. There he came under the profound influence of Aksel Jørgensen, who would come to mean an enormous amount to Bruun's artistic development.
Palsgaard Kunstauktioner now offers over 100 works by Niels Mandrup Bruun. The auction is a rare opportunity for those wishing to acquire something by this Danish modernist.
