Beskrivelse

For Mother's Day 2025, GUBI proudly presents Mother Made, an exhibition celebrating the power of women as creators and changemakers.

Mother Made honors the spirit and skill of women artisans through handcrafted editions of Pierre Paulin's Pacha Chair by textile artist Nina Ferlov and creative collective Pura Utz. The exhibition highlights the intimate journey from conception to creation and goes beyond to illuminate the often-unseen contributions of women in shaping their communities and preserving vital cultural traditions.

Mother Made extends digitally through a charity auction hosted by Palsgaard Kunstauktioner. The three reimagined Pacha Chairs will be available for bidding online until the 3rd of June, with 100% of proceeds directly supporting UNICEF Denmark's critical work to ensure safe births, access to clean water, and uninterrupted education in marginalized regions.

Founded in 2018 by Bernabela Sapalú and Anna Waller Andrés, Pura Utz empowers Guatemalan women artisans by providing fair wages and opportunities to create high-quality, handmade jewelry. The brand’s name, meaning "pure quality" in Mayan, encapsulates their dedication to excellence and sustainable empowerment. Based in Santiago Atitlán, Pura Utz actively supports and uplifts the lives of over 50 women, fostering community resilience and cultural heritage through artisanal craft.

Drawing on Mayan symbolism and the reverence for Pachamama, the Andean Earth Mother, Pura Utz presents a Pacha Chair rich with symbolism. The design celebrates life cycles, fertility, and renewal through intertwining roots, symbolic patterns, and blossoming forms. The Pachamama Chair is both a sculpture and a tribute to birth and women's strength—rooted in tradition yet inspiring transformation.

Hand-beaded in their Guatemalan atelier, the Pachamama Chair features approximately 244,000 tiny glass beads. Crafted over two weeks by six full-time artisans, it showcases intricate embroidery, with floral motifs rising in 3D from the surface. Using a flatwork technique and no set pattern, every element was intuitively shaped, allowing the piece to blossom organically mirroring the asymmetrical beauty of nature. The chair is fully upholstered in Dedar’s Lupo Special Diagonal Bouclé (007) and rests on a Pearl Gold swivel base.

Measurements: depth 85 cm x width 77 cm x height 65 cm. Seat height: 37 cm

Legendary French designer Pierre Paulin originally designed the Pacha Lounge Chair in 1975. Paulin designed the chair in harmony with the changing design style of its period, replacing the austerity of post-war design with a new, vigorous approach. Paulin managed to give a real elegance to the rounded forms of the Pacha Lounge Chair by finding the perfect proportions, raising it lightly on its base and tracing in the foam and upholstery with stitching lines inclined inwards. Through pieces like the Pacha Lounge Chair, Pierre Paulin pioneered low-level living; a modern way of living and sitting on the floor, by getting rid of chair legs. With comfort as the constant starting-point in his designs, the curvaceous, whimsical and organic shapes of the Pacha Chair are conceived to serve the body, providing both comfort and cosiness. Looking at contemporary today as when it first was designed, the Pacha Lounge Chair is an honest, functional piece that brings life and character to any interior setting.
