Valentiniaus II, born 371, died 392. Roman emperor at the age of four 375 together with his half-brother Gratianus and his uncle Valens. His part of the Roman Empire; Italy, Illyria and Africa were ruled by his mother Justina. The usurper Magnus Maximus, who had previously overthrown Gratian, expelled Valentinian II from Rome. He then sought help from his co-emperor Theodosius I, who defeated and executed Maximus, after which Valentinian 388 was reinstated as emperor of Vienne, Gaul. He died there under unclear circumstances 392.
